Monday Savings

Today at Smart and Final I spent $3.99, and technically didn't save anything. I didn't receive a flier for the store this week, so I wasn't going to go there, but I needed rice. Their rice is always cheaper than anywhere else, so I bought a 10 pound bag of rice for $3.99.

At Fresh and Easy, I spent $3.23, and it doesn't show me what I saved. This store just opened in our area last Wednesday, so I wanted to go check it out. It's a very nice store and the employees are very friendly. Their prices seem to be the same as every one else, except of course, the 2 sales items I bought. I bought red grapes for $.79/pound and tator tots for $1.89. Their sales prices just ring up as the regular price, so that's why I don't really know how much I saved. That's too bad!

At Albertsons, I spent $11.96 and saved $3.87, although that's deceiving again. Their Cloverhill donuts and danish are only $.99, but that's not marked as a sale price. I also bought ice cream cups that weren't on sale because it's 101 degrees right now, and I thought the kids might like a treat after school. So, anyway, Minute Maid orange juice was on sale for $2, and Danimals for $2 + $1 coupon.

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart, I spent $71.87 and used $6.97 in coupons. $20 of this was not groceries. I had to buy new coasters, a dishtub and 9 volt batteries. Batteries are very expensive! The cheapest was 6 batteries for $10.50!

At Vons, I spent $5.91 and saved $8.44, which is 59%. Raspberries were on sale for $1.99, yellow sweet onions $.99/pound, pears $.99/pound, and Lucerne ice cream $2. This shopping trip was an adventure! The onions weren't marked with the sale price and I couldn't find the pears. I couldn't find anyone in produce to help me, so I asked for help at the deli counter. They found the produce guy and he had to double-check my ad(good thing I carry it with me), and find the right onions and pears for me. He said the person that was supposed to change the signs, hadn't changed them yet. So, when I checked out, I made sure the produce rang up at the correct sale price, and luckily, they did. There's a great thing I just noticed on the bottom of my receipt. There's a 10% back-to-school program. You just go to a website, pick your school, enter a code, and the school gets some money! That's great!

At Ralphs, I spent $9.90 and saved $8.87. Kroger lunchmeat was on sale for $1.99, Pepperidge Farm cookies for $1.88, and cauliflower $.99/pound.

At CVS, I spent $6.23 and saved $10.85. Right Guard was on sale for $2.49 = $1.50 coupon + $4 extra bucks($2 for each one I bought) to use next time and Edge shaving gel $2.79 + bogo free coupon + $1.80 extra bucks for next time.

Whew! Lots of shopping today!

TrueCare

At the end of August I signed up for a program called TrueCare. I received a free 30 day trial because I'm a BzzAgent and am reviewing TrueCare, in return. TrueCare is a social network monitoring service. Here is some information about what they do: "TrueCare was created to help parents safeguard their children from cyber bullying, sexual predators and other threats that can harm children's social, academic and professional futures.

Unlike other monitoring services, TrueCare makes everything easy, from setup to monitoring. There's no need to install any software, and you can quickly add multiple kids to your account. They even provide resources to help talk with your children to maximize safety while minimizing the eye rolls and slammed doors.

TrueCare uses a customizable database of over 500 keywords that could be related to potential dangers, such as drugs, sex, depression, bullying and more. So you only get relevant e-mail alerts, without having to wade through the harmless posts. And TrueCare's monitoring service works no matter where your children are accessing their social networks, even from a cell phone.

Plus, TrueCare provides several other helpful and convenient features. With just a click, you can get results of public records for people connected to your children's online profiles. You even have access to a dictionary of common slang and abbreviations, like "POS" (Parent Over Shoulder) and "A/S/L" (Age/Sex/Location)."

I have this set up to monitor my 14 year old son's Facebook account. Luckily, I haven't received any alerts yet, so that shows me my son is not saying/doing anything he shouldn't and neither are any of his friends. So, that's very reassuring.

Through this campaign, TrueCare is offering you a 60-day free subscription. All you have to do is click on this link and sign up: http://www.truecare.net/bzzagent.htm. If you can't click on it(because I'm not so good at adding a link), please just cut and paste it into a new tab, thanks. If you do, please let me know and let me know what you think.

Also, have any of you ever tried this before? If so, what do you think?

Monday Savings

At CVS on Friday, I spent $3.81 and saved $8.08. Gilette deodorant was on sale for $3.99 + $1 extra buck for next week + free Gilette men's body wash. I also had $.99 in extra bucks to use from last week. Nivea body wash was also on sale for $4.99 + $4.99 in extra bucks, but they were out. I didn't bother with a rain check because I already received a free body wash, and didn't really need another, since we already had another one at home.

Today at Smart and Final, I spent $3.48 and saved $3.75. Peaches were on sale for $.50/pound, asparagus $1.99/pound, and broccoli $.69/pound. This was an easy shopping trip because everything was in the same section of the store.

At Albertsons today, I spent $25.24 and saved $28.71. Campbell's cream soups were on sale for $.79, Swanson broth $.59, Campbell's chicken noodle and tomato soup for $.69, Goldfish $1, Milano cookies $2 + $1 coupon, rain check for Yoplait Splitz $1.49 + $1 coupon, and a coupon earned last shopping trip for a free 12 pack of soda. I also earned 2 stamps for their cookware program, but because it was close to earning 3 and the clerk knows me, she went ahead and gave me 3 stamps. That was very nice!

At Walmart today, I spent $55.26 and had $4.98 in coupons. I actually only had to par $35.26 because my husband received a $20 rebate card for something he bought. One of the products I had to buy was cold medicine for my daughter. It's alcohol-free, but the register still asked to verify that I'm older than 18 - I was surprised. Does anyone know why they do that?

At Vons today, I spent $48.64 and saved $43.85, which is 47%. Vons had a lot of great sales today! Safeway juice was on sale for $2, Lucerne ice cream for $2, Lucerne string and stick cheese $2.99, Safeway oatmeal $1.49, Safeway ice cream $1.99, Soft Scrub $1.99 + $.50 coupon which was doubled, thin pork chops $2.49/pound, Kraft mayo. and Miracle Whip $1.99 = $1 coupon, $1.49 Nabisco crackers, $1.49 Prego pasta sauce + $1 coupon to use on my next shopping order, $1.50 hot/lean pockets and $.99/pound yellow sweet onions.

At Ralphs, I spent $6.24 and saved $9.19. A 10 pound bag of Russet potatoes was on sale for $.99, and Pringles for $1.25 + $.75 coupon which was doubled. My 14 year old son will be glad to know Pringles was finally on sale again. He's getting tired of the other chips.

Back to School Germs

I heard a lot of people this past week talking about back to school germs. At the time, we were all healthy, but things have changed. Both my 11 year old daughter and 3 year old son have colds. My 3 year old son mentioned last week that the teacher said one of the boys had a "drippy nose and mouth"(by the way, what's a drippy mouth?), so he probably got his cold from preschool. My daughter said all the kids around her have colds, and one of her teachers said it's going around. I also saw a mom on my walk this morning and she said her middle school daughter was just out with a cold and now she and her husband had it too!

That got us talking about back to school germs. My daughter was around other kids all summer at dance class, and my 3 year old was around kids in Sunday School, yet none of them got a cold until they went back to school. So, what is the difference in school? The mom I was talking to thinks it's because they're all breathing the same stale air in the classrooms and touching all the same things like doorknobs and desks. She thinks in dance, they're sweating it off, plus they don't really touch anything. So what do any of you think? Where to the back to school germs come from and have any of your children been afflicted with them?

Monday Savings

At CVS on Friday night, I spent $3.01 and saved $8.40! Gold Emblem chips were on sale for $1, Trident layers gum for $.99 +$.99 extra bucks for next time, and Brach's Halloween candy $.88. We love that candy - it's the one with the pumpkins and different flavored candy corn. Do any of you like that candy too? I also used $5.50 in extra bucks that I earned last week. They still don't have the Blink Tears in stock - I've had that rain check since Aug. 20. I also have a coupon for it that will expire at the end of the month, so I hope they have it soon.

At Smart & Final today, I spent $11.10 and saved $5.45. Cantaloupe was on sale for $.20/pound, green beans $.99/pound, 2 pound First Street pasta $1.59, and Hillshire Farms lunchmeat $1.49.

At Albertsons today, I spent $15.22 and saved $30.09. Chicken of the sea tuna was on sale for $.44(us and charity), Albertsons beans and tomatoes $.50(us & charity), Honey Nut Cheerios $1.49 + $1.00 coupon, Green Giant vegetables $.49(charity), Yoplait Delights $1.99 + $1 coupon, and Chex Mix $.99 + 2 - $.50 coupons. Yoplait Splitz was also on sale, but they were out, so I had to get a rain check. Every time I try to buy this new yogurt, it's always out of stock. It must be really good. Have any of you tried it yet? I also earned a coupon for a free 12-pack of soda next time, 50 bonus Box Tops, and 1 stamp toward my $.01 cookware. What a great shopping trip!

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart, I spent $72.78 and had $5.80 in coupons. It was a little expensive because I bought a pork loin roast for $10.43 because my parents are coming over for dinner tomorrow night. The roast will be put to good use though - we'll all eat it for one dinner, I will send some home with my parents, and my older son and I will eat it in sandwiches for lunch. I learned my lesson last week about making sure to pay attention to the prices on the cash register. I only bought Nestle Drumsticks because they were on sale for $3.98, but they rang up for $4.98. I told the cashier and she changed the price. Lesson learned! :)

I didn't go to Vons today because I either didn't need what they had on sale, or their sales prices weren't low enough.

At Ralphs today, I spent $14.46 and saved $18.73. Fritos and Cheetos were on sale for $1.50, Deluxe ice cream for $1.88 + $.40 store coupon, Ralphs bakery cookies for $1.98 and Quaker rice cakes for $1.

Monday Savings

At CVS on Saturday, I spent $26.89 and saved $11.83. Dawn was on sale for $.97 + $.25 coupon(charity), Campbells's tomato and chicken noodle soup $.50(us and charity), eggs $1.50, Glide Floss raincheck for $3.49 +$2.50 + $3 extra bucks, and my son's medication for $15 because I had an online coupon for $5 off. Also, a nice surprise about the raincheck, is one of the extra bucks for the floss was only supposed to be $2.50, but when it's a raincheck, the computer always rounds it up, so it was $3!

At Albertsons today, I spent $13.58 and saved $14.45. Gatorade was on sale for $.79, corn on the cob 5 for $1, and Mission flour tortillas for $1.49. I was going to be Kraft Mayo. for $2.49, but it expires in Nov., and I haven't run out of my mayo. yet, so I'm going to wait to buy it. I'm sure it will be on sale again, when I'm closer to running out. We don't use mayo. too much, we mostly use miracle whip.

Friday Savings

At Walmart today, I only spent $43.68 and I had $1 in coupons. I didn't need too many things today because I tried to plan things for dinner based on what I already had in my cupboard, that I had bought on sale in previous weeks. It doesn't always work out so nice, but it's great when it does. I also had another $1 coupon which didn't get used, but I didn't realize it until it was too late. I usually stand and watch the cash register screen, but Walmart was so busy and there was only 1 cashier with a ton of people in line behind me, and I didn't want to hold them up too much, so I just put my bags in my cart and didn't watch. My mistake - and definitely one I won't make again!

At Vons, I spent $18.52 and saved $24.38, which is 57%! Strawberries were on sale for $1.50, Safeway juice for $2, Breyers for $1.99, and Kraft cheese for $1.69. I couldn't find the juice, so I asked an employee standing nearby and he went in the back and found one for me. See, it never hurts to ask! I also originally had crossed the Breyers off my list because you had to buy 5 in order to get the discounted price, but when I went to Walmart first, I noticed they raised their ice cream prices to $2.38, so I decided it was worth it to buy the 5 Breyers. My son and I eat ice cream every night, so it definitely won't go to waste.

At Ralphs, I spent $5.25 and saved $6.72. Green grapes were on sale for $.69/lb., peaches and nectarines for $.59/lb., and broccoli and cauliflower for $.99/pound. At least here, I looked like I was really a super healthy person, unlike at Vons when I bought the 5 ice creams. :)

Yesterday, Albertsons had a special 8 hour sale. So, after dance class my daughter and I stopped there to buy Albertsons cookies for $1.99 and Hansens juice for $.99. I spent $4.97 and saved $5.

My Son's Sick Again

This morning after getting ready for school, my son came downstairs and told me he didn't feel good. I can't believe he didn't even make it through a whole week of school! Although, he was sick this same exact week last year. The neurologist at Children's Hospital gave him a prescription for Imitrex, and that seems to be helping. He just took one dose this morning, and he was able to eat a small snack and a little bit of lunch, which is a lot better than usual, when he can't eat anything. Now, he says it just feels like when he has really bad allergies. So, we'll see how the day goes and hopefully he won't have to miss much more school. Here's a link to my original post describing my son's sickness: http://brendashandmade.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-sons-sickness.html.
